Gentlemen if you ever had trouble picking the right underwear, you’re not alone. Some underwear has waaay too much space and your gems end up hitting the wall all the time. On the other hand, some boxer briefs tend to be supportive but they are actually squeezing everything and you feel like there’s no room at all. It gets quite uncomfortable after a while.
Thankfully, some brands came up with a brilliant idea – pouched underwear for men. In this review, I will compare SAXX and Shinesty, two amazing brands that make outstanding pouched underwear.

SAXX Review

SAXX was founded by Trent Kitsch in 2006. He got the idea while fishing since he was extremely uncomfortable down there in his fishing suit. He asked himself How can I reinvent men’s underwear to prevent contact and be more comfortable?’
He took a $20,000 loan and started the company. Soon after, thanks to Trent’s clever marketing ideas SAXX got featured in some popular TV shows. Daily sales skyrocketed and Trent’s idea became a reality.
What sets SAXX apart from most underwear brands is its patented BallPark Pouch technology. This 3D hammock-shaped pouch is designed to reduce friction and keep everything in place.
PROS
- Ball Park Pouched underwear
- Three-D Fit and Flat Out Seams tech for ultimate comfort
- Undies for everyday, outdoor, and sport
- Moisture-wicking
- Odor resistant
- 4-way stretch
- Free shipping and returns
CONS
- A lot of negative reviews online mostly regarding customer service
Shinesty Review

Shinesty was founded in 2014 by Chris White and Jens Nicolaysen, who were university students at that time. Shinesty is a clothing brand specializing in all things that are colorful, loud, and wild. If you want to stand out on a beach or theme party, Shinesty will bring you there. Chris and Jens got the idea after realizing that students don’t give up on theme parties even after they graduate. As soon as they launched their e-commerce store, the products were so unique that every single piece of clothing was sold out, immediately.
Shinesty underwear features Shinesty Ball Hammock Pouch Underwear Technology. It’s a similar invention to SAXX’s BallPark Pouch technology. Shinesty Hammock underwear is designed to keep everything in place and prevent ball-to-leg friction.
PROS
- Ball Hammock Pouched Underwear
- Stunning unique patterns
- Made from MicroModal
- Undies for both men and women
- Matching patterns
- Free shipping and returns
- Moisture-wicking
- Odor resistant
- 4-way stretch
CONS
- Shinesty products are a bit too unique, therefore they’re not for everyone
Head to Head – SAXX or Shinesty

In this section I’m not comparing products only, but everything a regular customer might want to know – shipping and return policies, customer reviews, etc.
Underwear
As you could read, both brands have quite similar inventions. The major difference is that SAXX offers undies only for men, while Shinesty offers underwear for both men and women and they even have matching underwear collections. They are really cool.
Both brands make super comfy undies that have 4-way stretch, moisture-wicking properties, and fight odor. SAXX undies are made mostly from moisture-wicking viscose or moisture-wicking nylon fabric combined with a bit of elastane and polyester, while Shinesty undies are made from MicroModal which is 3 times softer than cotton.
SAXX undies have a BallPack Pouch feature that keeps your balls in place along with Three-D Fit and Flat Out Seams for ultimate comfort.
Shinesty men’s undies come with Ball Hammock Pouch technology, gusseted crotch, and anti-bunching construction.
Shipping and Returns
In terms of shipping both SAXX and Shinesty offer free shipping under certain conditions. For SAXX, you’re eligible for free shipping if you join the SAXX Support Group. It’s free to join and if your order exceeds $75 it will be shipped for free. However, if you spend over $350 annually you’re eligible for free shipping on all products no matter the amount.
Speaking of returns, SAXX accepts returns until January 31, 2023, and you will get a full refund. After the mentioned date the return policy no longer applies.
Instead of a support group, Shinesty offers a monthly subscription. It’s a no-commitment type of subscription so you can cancel it anytime. The good thing about the subscription is that you can save 35% per pair and get free shipping. Also, you can swap your pair of undies for free.
Speaking of returns, you have 30 days to start a super simple and easy return process. The returns are free for all US orders. Now here’s an important thing I’d like to bring up – for all underwear you will receive store credit, not a refund (even if they are unworn and in the packaging).
Customer Reviews

Speaking of customer reviews SAXX and Shinesty have two quite different stories to tell. First of all, I couldn’t find SAXX’s claimed profile on Trustpilot. There are two profiles and both have a bunch of negative reviews. Not many in total, but most are negative. One of the comments mentions the undies I’ve reviewed here so I decided to check it out. A customer was mentioning Volt undies and how he was trying to return them. After 3 emails nobody replied to his request. On Amazon, I found another pair of undies I reviewed (the Vibes), and they are rated 3 out of 5. The grades are distributed evenly – 5 stars 23%, 4 stars 19%, 3 stars 18%, 2 stars 18%, and 1 star 22%. One of the customers left a comment about Vibe undies. He claims that he’s a loyal SAXX customer and he has tried various pieces. Speaking of Vibes, they are super comfortable but they soon start to ride up and it gets worse as time goes on.
Other customers claim that the undies are super comfortable and they love the BallPack Pouch and Flat Out Seams features.
Shinesty seems to be way more popular and the brand is rated 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot. But let’s not rely on one source only. I checked Amazon as well and The Big Bang Ball Hammock undies are rated 4.5 out of 5 as well. Over 70% are 5-star reviews and 1-star reviews make up only 4% of total reviews. Impressive!
Customers love the patterns (of course) as well as the ball hammock feature. They say that the undies are super comfortable and some of them bought more pairs instantly. Also, according to Trustpilot, customers are pleased with customer service agents as well.
Speaking of negative comments some customers complain that there isn’t enough room for balls in the pouch. Other customers complain that there aren’t refunds just store credit, but that’s clearly stated on their official website.
SAXX vs Shinesty underwear winner is …

Personally, I’d go with Shinesty. Again, that’s my opinion, and here’s why. SAXX offers undies only for men while Shinesty offers undies for both men and women and the patterns are so wild that you have to have one of those. There are matching collections available as well!
Next, most undies are made from MicroModal which is 3 times softer than cotton. SAXX undies are made mostly from moisture-wicking viscose or moisture-wicking nylon fabric combined with a bit of elastane and polyester. In terms of shipping and returns, both brands have similar policies except for the fact that from February 1, 2023, SAXX’s return policy no longer applies.
The BallPack and Ball Hammock features are quite similar and they have other features in common such as moisture-wicking properties, odor resistance, and 4-way stretch.
Last but not least, Shinesty has significantly better customer reviews and scores on sites such as Trustpilot and Amazon and customers appreciate attentive Shinesty customer service agents.
Let’s get some undies!
