What’s the first image that comes to your mind when someone mentions camping? Campfire, tents, and sleeping bags spread across the ground. But some people (me, for example) don’t like sleeping bags because they make them feel uncomfortable and even claustrophobic. When you feel hot, you can’t just stick one leg out to lower your body temperature.
Well, for all of you who feel the same way, there’s a solution – Rumpl blankets, a perfect sleeping bag alternative. Those adventure blankets are soft, durable, and made from recycled water bottles, making them an ideal asset to your camping gear.
In this review, I will compare two Rumpl products – Rumpl Original and NanoLoft blankets.

Rumpl Review
As the founder of Rumpl, Wylie Robinson, says “It started in the back of the van”.
Wylie was on a surf and ski trip through California with his wife Krissi, and one morning they woke up and realized that the temperature is below zero and their van wouldn’t start.

They decided to bundle up in their sleeping bags and wait for someone to pass by since the area had no cell reception.
While they were waiting, for hours, they realized how comfy and warm sleeping bags are, and how the materials are way better than the blankets we have at home.
This was the crucial moment, and they decided to make something like sleeping bag blankets.
Thanks to Kickstarter, the company reached the goal in less than 24 hours (WOW!) and the Rumpl was born.
Rumpl offers 4 different types of blankets: The Original Puffy, the NanoLoft Puffy, the NanoLoft Flame, and the Down Puffy, along with travel-sized and kids options.
The blankets are insanely popular since they are lightweight, water resistant, packable, and warm. The blankets have a cape clip which, I think, everyone loves. This feature allows you to wear the blanket, hands-free as a cape.
There are a few more things you’ll love about Rumpl
- They use 100% post-consumer recycled materials.
- They are now recycling over 5 million discarded plastic bottles every year
- They donate 1% of all revenue to environmental non-profits.
The Original Puffy
The Orignal Puffy is Rumpl’s #1 seller. It is a portable, packable blanket made to follow your every step.
It features a ripstop shell and insulation made from 100% recycled materials. More precisely, its exterior is made with 100% recycled 30D ripstop polyester fabric, making the blanket incredibly soft. Also, the exterior is treated with a durable water-repellent coating so the water will simply slide off your blanket.

Speaking of the interior, it is made with a 3D hollow fiber silicon synthetic insulation making you feel nice and warm.
Oh, and there is a cape clip and corner loops to stake the blanket into the ground.
If you’re wondering if the Original is as cozy and versatile as advertised, the short answer is YES. You can wear it around the house, hands-free, and it comes in many colors and designs.
The blanket is machine-washable. According to the Rumpl website, you can dry it in a dryer with low to no heat, or simply hang it up to dry.
The Original Puffy comes in three sizes – Junior, 1-person, and 2-person. If you’re getting the 2-person blanket, you’ll be happy to know that Rumple used 100 landfill water bottles to make it.
PROS
- Water-resistant
- Versatile
- Machine washable
- Made from 100% recyclable materials
- Many color and design options
- 3 sizes
CONS
- The smooth fabric can slide off you if you sleep under it
The NanoLoft Puffy Review
If you camp a lot in colder temperatures and you need a blanket to keep you warm, the NanoLoft Puffy is the perfect pick.
Thanks to down alternative filler made of post-consumer recycled polyester, the blanket will keep you warm in cold temperatures and remain lightweight.

Rumpl’s alternative to down is a breakthrough in blanket insulation technology. NanoLoft insulation is made up of tiny circular clusters of fiber that mimic the properties of down clusters.
Just like the Original, the NanoLoft blanket features a cape clip, water-repellent finish, and corner loops to stake the blanket into the ground.
The exterior is made with 100% recycled 30D ripstop polyester fabric and the interior is made with NanoLoft® insulation technology that mimics down.
It’s machine washable and it weighs only 1.8 lbs. Also, the blanket comes in its own stuff sack, and you can pick the color or design (there are plenty of options)!
PROS
- Water-resistant
- NanoLoft® insulation technology that mimics down
- Warm and cozy
- Machine washable
- Made from 100% recyclable materials
- Many color and design options
- 3 sizes
CONS
- Most popular designs can sell out quickly due to low inventory
Head to Head – Rumpl Original or NanoLoft Blanket?
As you could read and see in Table Comparison there aren’t many differences between the Original and NanoLoft blankets.
The Original blanket is the #1 seller and it is an all-around blanket. You can go camping with it or even wear it at home. Customers mentioned that they enjoy wearing the Original Puffy at home, hands-free, thanks to the cape clip feature.

It’s a fantastically comfortable and durable blanket that you can carry wherever you go.
However, if you plan to camp often in colder temperatures, the Original isn’t the best choice. The NanoLoft is.
Thanks to NanoLoft insulation technology that mimics down, NanoLoft is a perfect choice for camping in colder temperatures.
It will keep you warm (not suffocating warm) and cozy.
The water-repellent finish will keep water, snow, and dirt away. Even the pet hair. Customers have tested NanoLoft at 30°F and they still felt nice and comfy.
Both blankets are made from 100% recycled material, and you simply can’t disregard the fact that one 2-person blanket contains 100 landfill water bottles. That’s just amazing.
The Verdict – Rumpl Blankets Are Awesome!
The more you use any Rumpl blanket the more you will fall in love with it. That’s how it is.
Say goodbye to claustrophobic sleeping bags, and say hello to your new hugging buddy.
Speaking of the two blankets I’ve reviewed in this article, if you need a blanket for camping in cool or warm places, go for the Original Puffy. After you get back home, you’ll continue wearing it around the home, I promise you.

NanoLoft is a better choice for colder conditions. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying to use NanoLoft in Arctic conditions, because no blanket will help you there. NanoLoft will keep you cozy and warm down to 30°F.
Also, it’s not suffocating hot which I like, thanks to the smooth material.
The bottom line is, Rumpl has made a breakthrough with its blankets and people love them. So will you.
