Even though he wasn’t in Food and Beverage industry, Kristian still struggled to make a fantastic pizza at home. A restaurant-quality pizza was made in high-heat ovens and his home oven just wasn’t good enough.

Since pizza ovens were incredibly expensive and bulky, he decided to create the world’s first-ever portable wood-fired pizza oven that’s portable and cost-effective.

Today, his company designs, makes and sells amazing pizza ovens that can reach 950°F and cook pizza in 60 seconds!

Ooni Pizza Ovens Founders Kristian Tapaninaho and Darina Garland

Ooni offers five different ovens, to fit everyone’s needs. Almost every single one of them reaches 950°F in 15 minutes and they are made of powder-coated carbon steel. They also have a cordierite stone baking board and different add-ons according to the fuel type.

Let’s have a look at each one of them.

Karu 16 Multi-Fuel Pizza Oven

Ooni’s best-seller, Karu 16 is the first and only pizza oven to be ‘Recommended for Domestic Use’ by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana. Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana is the acclaimed international authority on true Neapolitan pizza.

This oven comes with two cordierite pizza stones, a glass door that lets you keep a watchful eye on your masterpiece, a chimney, and a super useful thermometer.

With Karu 16 you have multiple fuel options – wood, charcoal, propane gas & natural gas (with optional adaptors). Also, you can cook pizza in two different sizes – 12” and 16”.

Ooni Koda 16 Gas Powered Pizza Oven

Koda 16 is a gas-fueled oven. The main advantage of making pizza with gas is that it’s ready to use right out of the box. Also, it’s super easy to clean and maintain. Last, you can turn the heat up and down easily with the heat control dial.

Just like Karu ovens, it’s made of powder-coated carbon steel and you can fire amazing 16-inch pizza on a cordierite pizza stone.

Besides pizza, you can prepare a perfect steak, fish, or vegetables.

Here’s what’s in Koda 16 box:

  • Ooni Koda 16 pizza oven body with folding legs
  • Cordierite stone baking board
  • a) For propane ovens: Gas regulator and hose compatible with propane tanks.

OR

  • b) For natural gas ovens: Gas regulator and hose compatible with natural gas lines.
  • Extendable match holder

A smaller and cheaper version is Koda 12.

In Koda 12 you can prepare 12-inch pizza using only propane gas since Koda 12 is not natural gas compatible. The great thing about Koda 12 is the ease of use. It weighs only 20.4lbs and it’s ready for use in a matter of seconds! All you have to do is to unfold the legs, insert the stone baking board, and connect it to a gas tank.

Ooni Accessories

If you think that a pizza oven is enough to make pizza, then you should have a look at the Accessories section. You’ll change your mind in 3 seconds.

Ooni offers a huge range of accessories from pizza peels, oven brushes, topping stations, covers, wood pellets, and even Ooni dough balls!

Here are some I honestly think are absolutely a must.

Ooni Pizza Peel

This pizza peel has a 4.7-star rating based on over 1850 reviews. Wow.

Made from lightweight aluminum this peel will make you turn, prep, and slide your pizza like a pro.

Ooni Pizza Oven Covers

If you’re about to spend $400 on a pizza oven, you better make sure to protect it properly otherwise it won’t last forever.

Ooni designed custom-made covers for each pizza oven. The covers are 100% waterproof with super-snug elastic edge and adjustable stripes.

Ooni Modular Table

This is another super-convenient add-on to your pizza oven… or should I say your pizza oven would be a great add-on to this table.

All pizza ovens fit perfectly on Ooni modular tables and there’s the bottom part of the table for a propane tank if you use one.

The tables are made of robust powder-coated carbon steel and they have two height-adjustable shelves and built-in hooks for your Ooni peels and other accessories.

Are Ooni Pizza Ovens Durable?

Ooni Pizza Ovens are designed in Scotland but they are made in China. A lot of people caught on to this fact, but thankfully outstanding customer reviews are more convincing than speculations based on stereotypes.

Many satisfied customers claim they bought Ooni back in 2012 when the company was founded and they still enjoy cooking pizza with their friends under the stars.

The ovens are made of powder-coated carbon steel and brushed 304, 409, and 430 stainless steel. They are not sturdy, but lightweight, so you can carry them around. Also, the design is so simple that there aren’t many things that could go wrong with Ooni Pizza Ovens.

Ooni Customer Reviews

Honestly, I’m not sure I’ve seen so many positive reviews about a brand and its products. People obviously LOVE Ooni!

I checked out TrustPilot and Ooni scored 4.5 stars based on 3038 reviews! According to the reviews, customers loved every single Ooni pizza oven. Also, they are thrilled with Ooni’s customer service and how they handle issues and complaints.

On the other hand, there are a couple of negative reviews but it seems that some of them are more related to inexperienced users than the oven itself.

Regular folks are not the only ones who love Ooni. The company has outstanding reviews from some highly respected sources such as BBC Goodfood, TechCrunch, Cooks Illustrated, Wired, GQ, CNN Underscored, Bon Appétit, Esquire, and many others.

Are Ooni Pizza Ovens Worth It?

In short – YES! They are! Even though getting one of the ovens can be an investment considering the price range of Ooni pizza ovens but if you love preparing pizza and other food by yourself, it’s definitely worth it.

The pizza you make in Ooni is going to be out of this world, and your family and friends will 100% agree. Also, you can experiment with different foods such as steaks, fish, or vegetables.

Anyway, this lightweight, portable, and versatile oven will be a game-changer.
