With so many innovative things popping up in the menstrual care industry, there’s really no shortage of ground-breaking ways to battle your time of the month. Such as this, period panties have been slowly on the rise.
Truthfully, these aren’t revolutionary. They have been around since the 60s, but they weren’t such a good idea.
Firstly, they weren’t as effective as they’re now, and secondly, it could be easily said that they weren’t quite esthetically pleasing. In fact, they were much less compact, and the panty designs weren’t anything close to what they might be today, especially, not even close to Modibodi, Thinx, and Speax.
These three, offer reusable period panties, but with a much more acceptable design.
We put them under the microscope to see which might be the ideal choice for you. Also, we made a comprehensive in-depth overview of each one, side-by-side!

Why It Makes Sense? – Modibodi VS Thinx VS Speax
Putting aside their absorbent and reusable nature, plus their design, period panties have always been appealing to many, as a second protective shield against leaks.
It does happen sometimes. On a bad day, you could risk ruining your favorite pair of panties, just because the tampon or pad didn’t hold on well enough. So, with that said, period panties do appear to be godsend.
Additionally, they aren’t the grandma panties we all got accustomed to whenever hearing about period panties.
All of this is not to say that they’re only effective as a last resort, oh no. These puppies are quite absorbent in and of themselves. Made with cutting-edge technology, they’re more than happy to stop leakage for long periods of time.
But what are their fundamental differences? Choosing one might be a tad bit overwhelming, we agree.

In-Depth Comparison – Modibodi VS Thinx VS Speax
When choosing the right period underwear for yourself, you might consider a couple of factors like design, leakage capacity, price, sizes, just to name a few.
Because of this, we thought it be best to put them side-to-side, in an in-depth comparison, to see what Modibodi, Thinx, and Speax offer individually:

Keep in mind, the washing instructions might vary depending on the individual model or product, but all three do a good job of providing instructions on how to wash your period panties.
We can see that Speax has quite an impressive leakage capacity, which might make it a strong contender for those that have more frequent leaks. All in all though, all three are impressive for what you might consider, period underwear.
Modibodi, Thinx & Speax VS Usual Period Care Products

Now, a common thing with Modibodi, Thinx and Speax is the fact that they’re revolutionizing period-care, mainly because, with reusable period underwear, there is much less environmental impact, since less synthetic period care products are being used.
Thankfully, they perform very well. To be honest, the period panties market is a bit of a niche one. There aren’t many that prefer this, rather than pads, tampons, cups and more. What is great with this is the fact that you can use both, albeit, you don’t have to, since the period panties work well on their own.
You get so much for ditching the old-ways with going with something like absorbant underwear. People tend to feel freer, much more breathable, and all-round, more versatile.
The fact that you don’t need to go to the store anymore with such an innovative product, is a huge bonus!
Modibodi Review

Let’s start off by saying that from all three brands, Modibodi has the most variety when it comes to sizes. The underwear from Modibodi can be acquired with sizes ranging anywhere from double-XS to 6XL. Something which the other two lack, and could be a deciding factor for some.
In addition to that, as far as models go, there is a huge variety to choose from. It is quite hard to find something which doesn’t fit your criteria for underwear.
The price might appear the highest from the in-depth overview above, but honestly, it doesn’t feel that way. Price-to-performance is almost similar with all three brands. So, while you might pay higher for a different set, you do get a lot more for your money.
On top of all of the period-proof undies you can get from Modibodi, they also have what they call, Maxi 24-hr.
It will give you much more capacity to last through the whole day, if you don’t get a chance to switch out your underwear. Despite what many believe, this Maxi 24-hr line-up does appear to be working quite nicely.
They have multiple designs, both flamboyant and simple, but their black underwear lineup seems to be the most appealing to people.
Here’s what you might expect in terms of pros and cons if you so choose to go with Modibodi:
PROS
- Easily washable
- Multiple designs to choose from
- A lot of sets
- 24-hr protection on some models
- Vast sizing options
CONS
- Returns only for first-time customers
Thinx Review
Thinx is the most well-renowned brand for period undies in this list.
They have been around for quite a while, and since that is the case, they’ve improved their period underwear greatly over the years. What is most apparent with Thinx is their ability to make the most durable and the highest-of-quality underwear.
In some cases, customers have reported of using the same underwear for more than 4 years. That is impressive even for regular underwear. Unbelievable. What is indeed more surprising is the fact that the absorbency doesn’t have the tendency to change in capacity over the years.
So, for those that are looking for long-time period solution, this might be as good as it gets.
Some of the more absorbent models do have a thicker padding on the bottom, but it isn’t that inconvenient. And that only goes for the most absorbent undies, while the others are quite think and very comfortable.
They do have a huge assortment of models, but in terms of colors, there aren’t that many options, at least not as many as Modibodi. Sizes come in from double-XS to triple-XL, which is quite the variability when it comes to size. However, Thinx has considerably less choices for sizes compared to Modibodi.
The most absorbent models can hold up to five tampons, which is what most would consider a lot. So, wearing one pair a day is definitely a possibility.
There are a few pros and cons that should be considered if you’re thinking of going with Thinx:
PROS
- 60-day free returns
- Impeccable quality
- Very durable, can last a long time
- A lot of choice when it comes to absorbency levels
- Huge assortment of models
CONS
- Not as many sizes as Modibodi
Speax Review

Speax is quite similar to Thinx. In fact, Speax is in collaboration with Thinx.
What was previously Icon, is now Speax, and they specialize in a different type of underwear. Instead of period underwear, they specialize in urine underwear, hence why their absorbancy is so much higher than the other two.
From afar, it could be easily seen how similar Speax and Thinx are. That is due to one reason, and that is mainly because they use similar technology when it comes to the panties, and their absorbent materials.
Of course, the elephant in the room is the fact that Speax is much better for urine-proof panties, while the other one specializes in period-proof panties. You can expect the same quality, and more or less the same designs when it comes to these two.
So, indeed, Speax is one of the most well-known brands for urine-proof underwear. That is mainly a consequence of how well Thinx makes underwear, which now translates to Speax.
There are some designs and colors which might be more playful than its sister company, which is a plus in my book.
If you’re in need of urine-proof underwear, you can’t go wrong with Speax. Still, there are some positives and negatives that should be accounted for:
PROS
- Up to 40ml of absorbency
- Can be thrown in the dryer on a tumble low
- Free returns, up to 60 days
- Lively designs
- Very high-quality
CONS
- Cannot be used for periods
- Not many small sizes
Head-to-Head Comparison
If you’re like me, there is a chance that you’re not sure about which one to go with, and you tend to tick all of your boxes before making your final choice.
Well, to exhaust all options that won’t work for you, we thought it be best to put each brand of underwear against each other. This is merely to see first-hand at what some of the positives or negatives there are with every brand, compared to each other!
Modibodi VS Thinx: Which Is Better For You?
Let’s get something straight out of the game. In terms of how absorbent these both are, they’re pretty much the same. Both offer different models based on the type of flow you have.
One big aspect with Modibodi, is the price. It tends to be more expensive than Thinx (on average), but the difference is very slight. Additionally, Modibodi has less size options, something which might play a big role in your decision.
Then, there is also the case of longevity. We saw a big trend of underwear lasting for 4-5 years with both Modibodi and Thinx. However, it could be fair to say that this trend was more frequently seen with Thinx.
Plus, it wasn’t the case that the underwear lost any absorbency capacity over the years. On the contrary, there is a widely accepted consensus that they hold up pretty well over the years.
Well, if none of the above made you pick one of the pack, then design might play a big role. Determining which of these have better designs might be a bit subjective though. While I myself lean towards Modibodi more.
Thinx works on a four-layer technology, while Modibodi is either two or three layers.
That might be a bit misleading though, since in terms of how absorbant they’re, they are both the same. So, whether it be four-layered technology or two, you do get the same amount of efficiency for both.
Return Policy Difference Between Modibodi & Thinx
There is a huge difference with their return policies though. Obviously, this might be subject of change in the future, so please refer to individual return policies for Modibodi and Thinx.
With that said, as far as returns go, there are possible returns 30 days after purchase with Modibodi, while with Thinx, that is 60 days. In addition, Modibodi allows returns for first-time customers only, and for packages that haven’t been opened or tried. Obviously, there are returns for damaged goods as well.
What’s The Difference Between Thinx & Speax?

Well, apart from the obvious one, there are a lot of similarities between the two.
The main two differences are that Speax is for urine-proof underwear, while Thinx is more for period-proof underwear. Because of that, there is a big discrepancy in absorbency, with Speax being able to hold much more liquid than Thinx.
However, that doesn’t mean that they would perform better than Thinx for periods. Both are effective for what they’re trying to achieve, but not the other way around.
When it comes to designs and style, they might be a touch similar, with Speax having much more lively colors. However, with all that said, they’re separate, and their main function is different.
How Many Pairs Do You Need?

This depends on multiple factors. For one, it depends on whether you also use pads, tampons, cups, or other period products on top of the period underwear. If that is the case, then two to three pairs will work just fine for you.
However, if you want to ditch tampons, pads, and cups altogether and stick with period-underwear only, then you might need a few pairs.
Depending on the absorbency level of a particular model, the time for switching out underwear varies. Those that have the highest absorbency can last up to a day, so, daily underwear change will be needed.
So, depending on how long your periods last, you will need either double the amount of underwear, or the same amount of underwear to days, depending on the absorbency of that particular panties.
The underwear from Modibodi, Thinx and Speax will last you a long time, only if taken care of properly, with the official instructions from each company. So, without a doubt, you will have no issue maintaining your panties for at least two to three years optimally. (greenroom)
The Verdict: Efficient Period Panties – Modibodi vs Thinx vs Speax
To say that period panties have changed over the years is a bit of an understatement. Thanks to brands like Modibodi, Thinx and Speax, period panties seem like a good idea yet again. They’re comfortable and efficient choice, when it comes down to period-care products.
But which one is tailored for you?
Modibodi has the biggest options when it comes to sizes. So, if the other two don’t offer a size which you need, Modibodi will take care of you. Also, if you’re into more flamboyant and lively designs, than you might find Modibodi more appealing.
As for Thinx, based on a lot of positive reviews on longevity, it seems like Thinx holds up the best when it comes down to it. If you want a pair of panties that will last you a lifetime and you want something that will cut down period-care supplies’ cost, with the proper care Thinx is the way to go.
Since the nature of Speax is quite different, and its functionality as well, it should be considered for those that don’t want to worry about pee accidents or sweat. So, this shine with exercising, since they protect from urine, but also sweat. Perfect for the gym if you ask me!
