How Do Smokeless Fire Pits Work? – Breeo VS Solo Stove VS Blue Sky

Breeo’s X Series Size Comparison

When it comes down to how do smokeless fire pits work, it is relatively simple. It is all about airflow.

Generally, smokeless fire pits utilize some sort of an airflow technology where, air gets sucked from the bottom of the pit, heated by the fire. After which, the smoke that’s released from the fire rises, and the pit releases the hot air previously heated up to dissipate that smoke.

So, to sum up, smokeless pits use hot air to dissipate smoke. Air gets sucked from the bottom, gets heated by the fire, and once the pit releases smoke it releases hot air as well.

This is why, if you block the air vents or have poor airflow due to a number of reasons, you might see your pit start to release smoke.

All in all, a clever technology, which is pretty effective and surprisingly interesting.

Most consumers, tend to run away from smokeless pits. This is due to the fact that there’s a confusion on how the technology works, and whether it actually does what it is meant to do, meaning, whether it dissipates smoke or not.

Without a shadow of a doubt, I can tell you that Breeo, Solo Stove, and Blue Sky, and smokeless fire pits in general, do work.

Now, depending on which smokeless pit you get, you might see different efficiency and performance, but we will get into that later.

In general though, you can rest assured that your neighbors will thank you for opting in for a smokeless fire pit. Between Breeo, Solo Stove, and Blue Sky, there are detrimental differences though, which we did not expect.

By far the most top of the range smokeless pits are the Breeo pits. They come in with a pretty unique design, and there are a lot of sizes to choose from, hence the bigger price tag.

Whatever the case may be, Solo Stove is not that far off. Blue Sky is trailing at third, with less size options, and more portable pits. What Blue Sky has going for it though is the fact that you can customize your pit with your favorite NCAA, NHL, NFL team, or with the U.S. Army logo. Pretty neat.

Breeo Smokeless Fire Pit Review

Breeo X-Series – X24 Fire Pit

Breeo is the original. Compared to Solo Stove and Blue Sky, Breeo revolutionized fire pits forever.

There are a handful of models to choose from, and their two available lineups are the X Series and the Luxeve. Luxeve is hands-down, the most luxurious smokeless pit on the market right now. It comes in at $1,649, which is quite a lot, but all things considered, this is the most desirable no-smoke fire pit.

However, while the luxury lineup is very impressive, I imagine that not that many will actually go for that, since most don’t need that premium of a pit.

What most will be interested though, is the X Series. There are three models, the X Series 19, the X Series 24, and the X Series 30. These three models are divided by size, meaning the X Series 19 is a 19inch-diamater pit, and so on.

The best bang-for-the buck, and the most price-to-performance is the X Series 24. It isn’t too big, nor too small. Perfect for both beginners and experienced smokeless fire pit owners. Its price is reasonable too, coming it at $579 it is much more affordable than the X Series 30, and the Luxeve lineup.

It is no surprise then, that this is their best-selling fire pit. You can opt-in also for the X Series 19, but it can get a bit more challenging for barbecuing and cooking stuff, as it is too small.

Whatever the case may be, there are some downsides to Breeo. Granted, less than upsides:

PROS

  • The original, perfected its technology for so many years
  • Technology perfected
  • Both portable and stationary pits available
  • Luxury pits available
  • Design is very good
  • Easy installation for stationary pits

CONS

  • Essential accessories aren’t included and need to be bought after-the-fact

Solo Stove Smokeless Fire Pit Review

Solo Stove Bonfire

Solo Stove is a great alternative, and budget-friendly option to Breeo.

What is great with Solo Stove, at least for me, was the fact that there are only a few models, each coming it at a different size. There’s the Solo Stove Ranger, the Solo Stove Bonfire, and the Solo Stove Yukon.

The smallest is the Solo Stove Ranger, and it can work pretty well as a portable smokeless pit if you’re looking for one. It weighs less than 16 lbs. which is perfect if you’re looking for a small pit. Consumers also have reported it to be great for taking it on a trip.

Like Breeo, the best fire pit in their lineup, and the best-selling one for that matter, is the one in the middle. The middle-class no-smoke pit from Solo Stove is the Bonfire, and it is perfect for many applications, but mostly for your garden.

It is great value, coming in at only $254.99. However, if you want the get the most from your pit, you do have to invest in some accessories. Things like the shield, the stand, the waterproof shelter, the lid, and others. Otherwise, the Bonfire doesn’t really come with any of them.

But even this model could work as a portable pit, since it is only 20 lbs., thanks to its stainless-steel design. For most though, this model might be undersized, and that’s where the Yukon comes in.

Solo Stove, thanks to their signature airflow technology, has been among the great smokeless fire pits, and compared to best-in-class, like the Breeo.

So, what are the pros and cons to going with Solo Stove then? Here’s a list:

PROS

  • Interesting, yet simplistic design
  • Great product lineup
  • One of the best airflow technologies
  • A lot of accessories available
  • Very efficient

CONS

  • The stainless-steel case may start to change color after a lot of use

Blue Sky Smokeless Fire Pit Review

Blue Sky The Peak

Alright, let’s get one thing straight. What Blue Sky does really well is customization. You can customize your pit with your favorite team logo or league, and also, there are some U.S. Army themed smokeless fire pits.

While this is all well and good, let’s quickly talk about the shopping experience. Compared to Breeo and Solo Stove, at Blue Sky, you are bombarded with choices and models. Different designs, bundles, etc.

It is really hard to find out what’s what, especially if you’re a beginner and don’t know the first thing about no-smoke fire pits. With that out of the way, let’s see their lineup, at least their signature models.

Coming in at quite a reasonable price, it is their smallest portable model- The Pike Ultra-Portable Smokeless Fire Pit. It’s great. It is as simple as that. Very portable, great for trips to the mountain, but while the base model comes in cheap, once you add a few accessories, things get expensive real-quick.

The middleman, or the most bang-for-the-buck model as I like to call it, is the Ridge. It is not much higher than the Pike, but it is much wider, which makes it great for your garden, and possibly for some adventuring on the countryside.

Lastly, their biggest model is the Mammoth. We’re now past the portable stage. However, the Mammoth, as its name suggests, is quite huge. For garden parties or bonfires, it is amazing. But its price is quite huge as well.

In any case, while I prefer Breeo and Solo Stove, let’s see the pros and cons for Blue Sky, for those of you who are considering to go this route:

PROS

  • Customize your pit with your favorite team logo
  • More modern design
  • A lot of accessories available

CONS

  • Not forgiving for beginners

Head-To-Head Comparisons

There is a chance that you might be thinking of two of these three brands for your smokeless fire pit. In that case, we did a head-to-head comparison, to see the use cases of each, and which brand or fire pit will be more suitable for you.

All three matchups will be covered below.

Which Is Better? – Breeo VS Solo Stove

Breeo X-Series – X24 Fire Pit

Both of these are very impressive smokeless fire pits. But there is a clear victor, especially if you put into consideration, some use cases.

Generally, Breeo does tend to cost more, but considering it is the original, like the Coca-Cola, then people might lean towards it more. And quite frankly, if you’re looking for the most luxury-looking and premium fire pit, this is it.

However, if that’s not you, then Solo Stove might be enough for you. Since it costs less, it won’t put as big of a dent on your wallet, but you’ll still get a pretty good fire pit, which is highly efficient.

There is a big BUT though. Cooking on the Solo Stove is not as easy as Breeo. That’s the whole deal with Breeo, you can get a great looking fire pit, which can also act as a cooker. With all the cooking accessories available with Breeo, it is the better option from the two.

But if that’s not the case and you’re looking for a portable pit, which on the best of days will only be used for some marshmallows, it does make sense to get Solo Stove instead.

The Better Option – Breeo VS Blue Sky

Blue Sky The Peak

How about these two, does Blue Sky have what it takes to beat Breeo? Well, in my opinion, no.

Blue Sky might be relatively much cheaper than Breeo, it does start to add up once you start adding in some accessories. To me, and I’m guessing to most, the accessories are a must. After all, it is not only about getting a firepit, which isn’t good for anything else.

In this regard Breeo does make more sense. And, if you want to add your Breeo to you garden with some bricks, it is very easy to do so. That is not the case with Blue Sky.

To Blue Sky’s credit though, they have come up with a great design for their smokeless fire pits. Granted, if you’re into that more modern and slicker look.

Still, no one can argue that Breeo doesn’t look premium, because it definitely does. Plus, some of the accessories you can get with Breeo give you a killer kit for barbecuing or cooking. In my opinion it is the much better choice between the two, and I wouldn’t mind spending a bit of extra for it.

Solo Stove VS Blue Sky – Two Underdogs

Solo Stove Bonfire

It’s no secret that these two are the underdogs when it comes to smokeless fire pits. But as we saw, they’re quite efficient, and might be better than Breeo in some cases. However, how do they fare against each other?

If we’re talking purely about design, then I must say, Blue Sky has Solo Stove beat. It has a more modern design with some dark tones. And the customization is a plus as well.

But in terms of efficiency, Solo Stove’s technology seems to be the best hand down. Plus, the design isn’t that bad either, especially if you like the rugged steel look. All things considered, I would see myself use Blue Sky for portable smokeless fire pits, but Solo Stove for my stationary garden fire pit.

Still, keep in mind that Blue Sky’s accessory lineup isn’t as full as Solo Stove.

The Verdict: Are Smokeless Fire Pits Worth It? – Breeo VS Solo Stove VS Blue Sky

Absolutely. Instead of getting a pit that does produce smoke in your garden, why not opt-in for a smokeless fire pit instead? On average, sure, smokeless pits tend to be more expensive, but the benefits are quite clear.

No more clothes that smell like smoke, no more coughing near the bonfire, no more smoke that somehow finds a way to enter the neighbors window, the use cases are endless. We’ve established that it makes sense, but which one should you opt-in for.

Without a doubt in my mind, the best smokeless fire pit for your garden or patio is the Breeo pit. It comes with a lot of accessories, and cooking on it is enjoyable. Plus, it has an added benefit of looking premium.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a portable solution which you can move around, and possibly take it on a trip, then Solo Stove is unbeatable. It has so many accessories which are made for trips especially, and it is quite easy to travel with.

Blue Sky is one of those cases where, certain aspects aren’t enough to make it a viable choice compared to the other two. Sure, it has customization going for it, more modern designs, and all that, but is it enough to be a better alternative to the other two? I leave you to be the judge of that.
